"The Princess Ballet" is the ninth episode of the third season of Sofia the First, and the sixty-first episode overall.
It premiered on November 1, 2015.
Overview[]
Princess Kari performs ballet at Royal Prep's Open House and Sofia teaches her that it's okay to not be perfect at everything.
Plot[]
At Royal Prep, the students are doing Enchanted Gardening. Vivian makes a dancing daisy, Sofia makes a rising rose stalk, and Princess Kari producing exceptional results with singing sunflowers. Kari reveals that they sing higher or lower depending on how much plant food they are given. Just then, Zooey's bouncing bluebells bounce everywhere and Kari catches them all. Sofia knows that Kari was the most valuable player at the dazzleball tournament, and Vivian and Zooey provide more examples of why Kari is the most accomplished Princess at Royal Prep. Flora announces that the day after tomorrow, Royal Prep will host its very first Arts Night, which is when the parents come to school to see presentations of all the artistic things done at Royal Prep. Zooey, Clio, and Derek will put on an enchanted orchestra performance, and James, Khalid, and Vivian will decorate the main hall with student artwork. Miss Elodie then arrives, looking for nimble dancers to perform a simple but stunning ballet. Sofia, Amber, and Kari all volunteer for the ballet. Kari is determined to be perfect since her mother was a prima ballerina when she was a student at Royal Prep. Sofia and Amber plan to help Kari learn the steps of the ballet, and Kari agrees to do the ballet. The students are given the invitations to give to their parents.
Later, Sofia, Amber, and Kari begin their ballet rehearsal with Miss Elodie. Miss Elodie gives them words of advice from Sergio Adagio, stating that ballet is done not just with arms and legs, but with a joyful art. Miss Elodie shows the princesses the routine she choreographed for Arts Night: a pirouette, an arabesque, a glissade, and a grande jeté. Miss Elodie tells the princesses that they'll learn bit by bit. Sofia tries the pirouette but fails, followed by Kari. Kari sees her mother's form perfect and tries the pirouette again but fails. She tries it a third time and bumps into a harp. Kari tries the pirouette more times but stumbles every time.
When Sofia and Amber go out for recess, Kari continues to practice, to Sofia's concern. Meanwhile, Zooey is putting together a sculpture made of the things she found at home, calling it an elephant. Flora likes it as James, Khalid, and Vivian arrive. They are tasked to turn the hall into an enchanted gallery of student art while finding a good spot for the sculpture. They decide to move it over to the bench, but during that, the sculpture falls apart. James, Khalid, and Vivian decide to put the sculpture back together.
At the end of the day, Kari meets up with her mother, giving her the invitation to Arts Night. Kari tells her mother about the ballet she will be performing before stating that she hasn't gotten the hang of leaping or spinning yet. The two then head back home.
The next day, Kari is revealed to have shown up early for practice, to the concern of Sofia, Amber, and Miss Elodie, who all fear she's taking this way too seriously. Kari then does a hop which Sofia and Amber compliment. Sofia calls it the Kari Hop, and she does it with Amber and Miss Elodie, with Kari joining in. Flora likes it and decides to speak with Miss Elodie. Kari then decides to go back to practice but still can't do the pirouette right. During a duet, Kari reveals that she's a perfectionist for the same reason Sofia is. Sofia tells her she's doing fine and just needs to relax and have fun. Eventually, Kari perfects the pirouette, and she and Sofia head back to Miss Elodie and Amber. Up next are the other dance moves, which Miss Elodie tells the princesses about. Kari wonders how she will master them by tomorrow night, but Miss Elodie tells her that she will do fine. Miss Elodie asks her old teacher Sergio Adagio to teach Kari.
At Enchancia Castle, the princesses meet up with Sergio Adagio, with Amber giving him bouncing bluebells. Sofia tells Sergio Adagio about the dances Kari needs to learn, and he starts with the grande jeté, which Kari tries. Sergio Adagio decides on things Kari needs to jump over, and Sofia uses the bouncing bluebells. Kari tries to bounce over them but trips. She gets it right the third time, and Sergio Adagio calls it wonderful. Up next is the arabesque, which Kari does while holding two dusters. Last is the glissade, which Kari does with Sergio Adagio, who is holding a bell. Sergio Adagio tells the princesses the lesson about how the princesses should dance.
Meanwhile at Royal Prep, James, Khalid, and Vivian put together the sculpture, but Vivian knows the mop wasn't originally on the sculpture. Elsewhere, Kari thanks Miss Elodie for setting up the lesson with Sergio Adagio. Kari shows what she did, and Miss Elodie tells the princesses the pirouette again. Although Sofia and Amber do it perfectly, Kari messes it up again. Kari tries it a few more times but messes it up every time. Kari states she can't be in the show and runs off with Sofia following.
As for the sculpture, James assumes that Zooey will not be happy with the new version of it. Zooey then arrives, stating that the hall looks great. She then sees the new version of the sculpture and wonders what happened. James, Khalid, and Vivian tell Zooey what happened regarding the sculpture. However, Zooey states that the sculpture is even better than before, and making it was the fun part. Kari then bumps into the sculpture, and Sofia tells her that everyone makes mistakes. The others decide to put the sculpture back together, and Sofia gets Kari to understand that the point of dancing is to have fun, even if Kari doesn't do it perfectly. Kari's parents will see her have a great time dancing at the show. Kari finally knows that ballet is fun and decides to do the show. That night, Flora introduces Miss Elodie, who presents Sofia, Amber, and Kari. Sofia tells Kari the lesson Sergio Adagio taught her, and Kari finally relaxes and enjoys herself, wowing the crowd with Sofia and Amber by doing the different dances, including the Kari Hop. Kari apologizes for making the messes, but Queen Tessa states that they don't expect Kari to do everything perfectly. Queen Tessa tells Kari that she did as well as she could. Amber tells Kari that people are asking if she can show them how to do the Kari Hop, and Kari teaches them the dance. During that, Sofia tells Queen Tessa that she invented a new move: the Queen Tessa Trot.
