"Minding the Manor" is the fifty-seventh episode of the Disney Jr. animated series, Sofia the First, and the fifth episode in Season 3. It premiered on October 2nd, 2015.
Plot[]
Sofia arrives by coach at her Aunt Tilly's manor to help her get ready for her garden party. Once inside, she meets Tilly's hobgoblin butler Spruce. Tilly gives Sofia a list that she can't make heads or tails of until Tilly explains it to her. Once Sofia and Tilly are in the music room, they meet the magical music box. Tilly mentions that each of the magical music rolls plays a song that makes magical happen. The rainbow one makes a rainbow, and Tilly tells Sofia that each roll does something different. Tilly leaves to go get the snickerdoodle sandwiches and broccoli bonbons and leaves Sofia in charge of the house. At first, Sofia doesn't think she can do it, but Tilly, through a song, tells her she can do it.
After Tilly leaves, Sofia and Spruce clean up the manor for the party. First, Sofia ties the balloons to the mailbox, causing the balloons to multiply and uncover a secret tunnel. As Spruce cleans it up, he and Sofia make their way through and find a trapdoor containing a ladder that leads inside the manor. Sofia wonders why Tilly has a secret passageway and goes to tidy up the music room before picking the vases and taking the rug for a walk.
Sofia plays a green roll on the magical music box that the magic music box says is special though she can't remember why. This turns out to be a big mistake, because this brings the manor's gargoyles, Muck, Gunk, and Grime, to life. They then decide to take over Tilly's manor while making sure they take the magic music box before a song is played that turns them back to stone. When Sofia and Spruce discover them, they try to keep them out by locking the windows and closing the door, but the gargoyles get in through the chimney and Sofia overhears their conversation about the magic music box turning them back to stone. Spruce distracts the gargoyles while Sofia figures out how to turn them to stone.
Spruce tickles them with his duster while the magic music box tells Sofia that there is a music roll that will turn the gargoyles back to stone, though she can't remember. Sofia can't figure out which is the right roll, and shortly afterwards, Muck grabs the magic music box. Gunk slides Sofia and Spruce out of the manor with slime. Sofia tells the gargoyles to let them in, but Muck tells her that Tilly trusted the wrong princess. Muck decides for the gargoyles to break the magic music box.
After Spruce mentions it, Sofia knows that she should fix problems, no matter how big they are. The gargoyles' attempt to stretch the magic music box fails, so they think of another way. Sofia plans for her and Spruce to find another way inside the manor and then, if they're really quiet, Spruce grabs the magic music box while Sofia figures out which music roll turns them back to stone. Sofia finds the secret passageway and he and Spruce use it to get inside.
As the gargoyles are about to fling it into a wall covered with slime, Spruce takes the magic music box, causing Muck to get slimed instead. Sofia then sends the flying fish to distract the gargoyles before finding a stone roll and realizes that it can turn the gargoyles back to stone. Although Muck slimes Spruce and gets the music box, Sofia takes the box back after using a rug to trip the gargoyles up, and then turns the gargoyles back to stone using the stone roll. Sofia and Spruce then finish cleaning up the manor but are unable to get the gargoyles back inside.
Tilly then gets back and knows that Sofia played the green roll. Tilly and Spruce reveal to Sofia that stopping the gargoyles was a test of being in charge and she passed. This is because Sofia has to know how to handle things when it comes time to face her destiny. To help, Tilly gives Sofia a book which reveals the secrets of Enchancia Castle, and Tilly tells Sofia that there's a secret not in the book. When Tilly was young, she had the same bedroom as Sofia's and used to read in the window seat for hours. Sofia should read the entire book because knowledge is the key to everything. Tilly then brings the gargoyles back to life and invites them to the party, to their delight. Sofia asks Tilly if there are any more surprises she should know about, and Tilly hopes so.
